My Top 10 Tunes!
Yes, so excuse the cheesy title but today I was listening to my iPod whilst walking my dog and I thought how out of the hundreds of songs on there how difficult it would be to choose my top 10, so I decided to challenge myself and have a go for you. Each song is going to be by a different artist in order to show a wider range of the music I listen too (hopefully) and to try and introduce you to some new music (again, hopefully!). This is in no particular order as that would be seriously too difficult:P
1. Butterfly Culture- Benjamin Francis Leftwich
I absolutely love this song for two reasons, the first being that it is generally slow and steady and easy on the ears so it is a good thing to listen to when you're relaxing. The second reason is that the lyrics are quite easy to relate to as from what I gather he is talking about being part of today's society that always takes and never gives, 'where we work and we take, we play...' so the things that are beautiful in life never last for long, like a butterfly, and he goes along with it all and that's why he says 'I am a member of the butterfly culture.'
2. Breakfast at Tiffany's- Deep Blue Something
Lets face it, this is a classic, even my mum is happy when it comes on in the car and she can exclaim happily 'I know this one!' The song is about people who think they knew each other really well but at a closer look realize they don't really have that much in common but they just don't care because they want to be together. The song is really upbeat, and always puts me in a good mood because it's so catchy and really easy to sing along to.
3. Let's Go Back To School- Don Broco
This song is so catchy! The lyrics talk about thinking you know everything when you're at school but then when you get into the real world you realize that actual school was the the best time of your life and you wish you could go back. They think back to their school days 'I used to push the biggest weight, I fooled myself I ran the place, I once believed that was the real world'. The song is the sort of thing that is great to sing out loud with your friends when hanging around or just enjoying when you have your head phones in.
4. Give Me Love- Ed Sheeran
I love songs played on the acoustic guitar and I love someone with a unique voice, and in my opinion Ed Sheeran ticks both those boxes and Give Me Love is my favourite of his songs. To me the song is about someone who is still in love with someone who they are in a relationship with that has distanced themselves. The song is a great listen and I find it no surprise that his album + was such a success. P.S, I also love his ginger hair.
5. Carry On- Fun.
Fun basically make feel good music. Carry On is my favourite of their songs as it isn't quite as upbeat as a few of their other songs but they sound so sincere and meaningful and it is so well sung! They are trying to tell you that when you are lost or feeling alone or 'Sinking like a stone' that you should carry on as a break up is not worth putting your life on hold for. fun. are one of my favourite bands at the moment and unusually for me I quite like the electronic feel some of their songs have.
6. Minority- Green Day
Even though this isn't one of their most recent songs it's still one of my favourites. I love the rhythm Green Day have in all their songs but this one really speaks to me. It's about someone who doesn't want to follow the same rules as everyone else and doesn't want to follow the rules which are seen as correct, ' I don't need your authority'. To me I see this as simply not being part of the 'cool crew' and just being your own person, wearing your own thing and not caring what everyone thinks. This may not be exactly what it means, but when hear the song this is what I think of. I find Green Day really inspirational for singing about this and they were really ahead of their time in my opinion, and I really relate to them for not following the crowd. I also reaaaaalllllly love Billie Joe Armstrong's voice and I could literally listen to it all day.
7. Waiting For My Chance- Noah and the Whale
Noah and the Whale are my favourite band. I love everything about them: their voices, their style, etc. The reason this is their best song in my opinion is the fact that it starts using the violin along with the guitar. Not many bands incorporate instruments like this into their music, but I love it! The song is about someone waiting for a chance to be with the person they like, they question whether they are worth anything, but realize that they are when they are with that person.
8. Shakermaker- Oasis
I love the guitar riff at the beginning of this song, and then it only gets better. As you've probably guessed by now I love people who don't sound like everybody else in the music industry. I love it when I can hear a song and know exactly who it is by even when I have never heard the song before, simply because the voice is so individual and recognizable, and this is exactly what Oasis are. Shakermaker is my favourite Oasis song because it is so catchy and easy to learn the words, and that is one thing I love about a song. Noel wrote the song to sound as silly as he could and I can't really make a meaning out of it, but sometimes that's all you need!
9. Kiss With A Fist- Florence and the Machine
I love the lyrics this song starts with- 'You hit me once, I hit you back, you gave a kick, I gave a slap, you smashed a plate over my head, and I set fire to our bed.' , because they're quite funny, but they also show how quickly situations can escalate from a small thing. The song isn't really the type of music I would usually go for, but I love Florence and the Machine and I think she is great to listen to when I'm up for something a bit different.
10. Shuffle- Bombay Bicycle Club
I find Bombay Bicycle Club are great to listen to when you don't necessarily want to sing-a-long but you still want something pleasant to listen to. The constant piano riff in the background of Shuffle is addictive and always makes me happy. Shuffle is about getting someone to admit their feelings before everything falls apart. The song is probably Bombay Bicycle Club's most well know song, and I usually think that means it's not usually the best because I don't like what music most people download, but I genuinely believe that this is their best song by far.
So there we go, my top 10 songs on my iPod. There are sooooooo many other things I could have picked that only narrowly missed the top 10, but if I included everything it would have taken FOREVER and everyone would get bored before the end. So, comment if you liked or disliked this, and if you have any other suggestions just mention them:) See you next time!
