WHAT IF...? #1

Hey guys:) So my new idea is that every once in a while I'll do a 'What If' post where I will come up with a random scenario and talk about what I think would happen and how I would react to it, and then you lovely people could leave comments with what you think would happen and we could maybe start a huge conversation down in the comments?

So I thought I'd start off with a pretty easy to think of topic that I'm sure many of you will have an opinion on. Earlier on this year I watched a series called 'Revolution' where all the power went out and the consequences were rather dreary. It was a very good series and I totally recommend you watch it if you haven't already, but anyway, I'm not going to go as far as to say what would happen if all the power went out (I think that thought is unbearable to just about everyone!), but the topic will be 'What If the Internet Stopped Working?'

I know this is pretty unlikely, but let's just think for a minute how different our lives would be if one day we woke up and the internet was no more. I'd be a state for sure, no more YouTube and Tumblr, what would life be (I'm sad I know.) There would certainly be a total decline in the teenage population with twitter obsessed kids not knowing what to do anymore or how to function (me ;P) and plenty more people on the streets as teens come out of their bedrooms, bleary eyed, seeing light for the first time in days. We wouldn't be able to stalk old school friends to see how well their lives are going, (or how badly xD) and we would no longer be able to look up funny cat pictures or get all your information for work off Wikipedia (grades would definitely fall), BUT, a lot more work would get done as procrastination would get harder;)

It's bad but I literally don't think society would function properly without the internet, even though its only really been around in households across the country for the past 15 years (I'm only old enough to remember dial up connection that took absolutely FOREVER, but did play a pretty awesome noise at the same time). It would be so much harder to interact with people from other countries and keep up with news as all we would have is the telephone. I personally think this could result in more wars and conflicts as it would be harder for organizations to sort world issues out, but that topic is certainly very debatable.

After a while unemployment would certainly shoot up after a while as IT whizzes, Bloggers, YouTubers, etc, would no longer be needed. This would then mean the economy would be ruined and poverty would increase, and the whole world would become a much more sadder place to live. So next time someone asks you why you're spending such a long time on the internet just tell them you're saving the world, they wont understand but at least you can justify your answer!

On the plus side though, there would be no need to spend ages trying to get the perfect profile picture, we wouldn't have to see bitchy girls taking inappropriate photos all the time, or have to watch another video of someone trying to get internet famous by eating a tampon. Ew. But I'd take all that to keep the internet.......... I love you WiFi<3

So there we go again, I obviously haven't covered all the outcomes, that would take forever, and I kind of feel like I've just spewed a whole load of my thoughts at you without any real structure, but let me know what you think would happen in the comments, or say if you disagree with anything I've said, (I do talk a load of rubbish sometimes!). Also leave a comment if you enjoyed this sort of thing and if you have any ideas for another 'What If?' blog.

Goodbye Everybody:))
